‘Humaare desh mein ghadi ki sui character decide karti hai.’ It literally ticked. Don’t we all relate to it ? Midst all the courtroom dramas I have recently seen, this is the one which echoed in my mind on my way back home and it still is. Shot strategically in Delhi so that you can feel the fear of those three girls walking on streets feeling threatened & unsafe every moment, while you are still sitting in your seat comfortably, is what makes Shoojit Sircar’s Pink so close to your heart. It tells men that a woman’s NO means NO and she means it when she says it. It tells the women to not be apologetic about having desires, wanting to live and love independently, fearlessly and fight for themselves when needed. But how long will it take for society to let go of the stereotypes and treat every girl like an individual human being and not a community who is to behave and live a certain way? It surely is a bit far fetched.

Big B’s monologues, dialogues, his eyes, speak volumes about his talent and how he keeps surprising us as an actor. Taapsee Pannu stands out in her performance and will surely be remembered for this one. Direction is crisp and powerful, special mention to the dialogues. The song ‘Kaari Kaari‘ in the background is perfectly placed and so is the flashback along with end credits.

‘Uski na mein hi haan hai’, ‘Tu haan kar ya na kar’, ‘If she is resisting, she is perhaps coy and still wants it?’ These are not just the age old lines used and believed in India, but innumerable times in Hindi cinema as well. However, like Big B wraps it up in one line ‘No. Sirf ek shabd nahi, apne aap mein ek vaakya hai’. High time we learn to say it and accept it gracefully.
