Thank you Secret Supertar for being such a simple & lovely film. A movie which clearly put more effort in direction and story line than promotion and marketing. Respect and love for Zaira Wasim for showing numerous shades of humanity all reflected in one strong character – Insiya. Insiya is a combination of innocent and wise, patient and restless, calm and feisty & ruthless and warm. These days, what is craved in movies are the portrayals of dynamics of a relationship, Secret Superstar offers that through two beautifully poised relationships. The endearing bond between Insiya and her Ammi stands out discreetly as it either makes one laugh but more often that that, it tears you up as you see your mother’s face in Nazma (Meher Vij) every time she is on screen and all you feel is to go back and give your mom a tight hug.
Another relationship that comes as surprisingly heart warming is the one between Insiya and Chintan. After a long long time, a film has had the courage and confidence to show the innocence of that feeling called love which becomes insanely calculative and pretty non-platonic as we adult.
Last but not the least, Aamir Khan as Shakti Kumar ! It’s only he who can play a borderline cringe worthy character and get away with it just fine.
However, the actual winner of the film is its music – Meri Pyaari Ammi being my favorite of the lot 😃
An amazing film and a must watch.
