In the pitch dark night
When she couldn’t find sleep in her eyes
She gave up to the sound of ticking clock
Bidding goodbye to the starry skies

About to step in her cosy bed
As the lights went off
A figure walked across the wall
She trembled
Snuggling tight to the pillow beside
Her large twinkling eyes
Rolled in an anxious surmise
Her fast beating heart
And the sweat on her face
Said it all
In the moment of haste

Slowly, she looked again
This time, she recognised
Breathing a sigh of relief
She sat in profound disbelief
That how sometimes what we fear the most
Is our own Shadow
Playing a daunting ghost
