First thoughts and Meet-cute: It was such a pleasure reading this one. Ashton and Jasmine’s meet-cute reminded of the one between Dimple and Rishi in the Netflix show ‘Mismatched’
The name ‘You Had Me At Hola‘ might suggest that ‘Hello’ is replaced with ‘Hola’ just to make it sound fancy, but no! The Spanish references are piled one after the other. However, I managed to google some of them and let go of others before reading on.
Gist: Ashton and Jasmine as co-stars of a telenovela despite trying to keep their distance for the sake of their careers and past ghosts, are deftly drawn to each other in this light-hearted romance. As they uncover each other’s fears and secrets one after another, there is one hidden truth which could be the end of something that had just started brewing between these two.
Best things about the book: Ashton and Jasmine’s intimate scenes, both onscreen and offscreen, are lucid and audacious. Their work dynamics and the whole hiding business because of being colleagues, can evoke anguish but never becomes too much to handle. Also, it’s so relatable to see Jasmine’s big family and her closeness with her cousins.
What’s next: Would have picked up another book by this writer immediately after, especially because that one is about a fun cousin of hers, but bohot hi zyada Spanish for one week 🙈 So later maybe? 😬
